School History

1969Began Japanese language education as the Japanese Language Department of the Kyoto English Center.
1980Established the Japanese Language Specialized Course, which became eligible for visa issuance. Started accepting students from Asia.
1987An increase in Chinese students led to the introduction of preparatory education for higher education.
1990Established as a institution recognized to conform to the standards of the Association for the Promotion of Japanese Language Education
1994Relocated the campus from Shimogyo Ward to Kitashirakawa, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto.
1997Began preparatory education for Kyoto University of the Arts (formerly Kyoto University of Art and Design). Established art and design-focused classes for higher education.
2004Received official recognition as a specialized training college. Renamed to Kyoto Institute of Culture and Language.
2011Reorganized the Preparatory Japanese Language Course into the Comprehensive Japanese Language Course.
2014Integrated into the Uryuyama Academic Foundation.
2017Underwent third-party assessment by the Association for the Promotion of Japanese Language Education and received accreditation for meeting the standards.
